Go figure, but my comfort zone with Elektron is at their bottom end. I wish the Cycles had more diversity in the FM engine, but it's still got some neat tricks, and I use it as the main sequencer for the Blofeld. Now I have a little fun-time workstation consisting of two M:S's, an M:C, and a Blofeld. I wish it could sample, but other than that, the sequencing of outboard gear feels more intuitive, the massive sample memory makes a lot more sense than the Digitakt did for me, and I just have an incredible amount of fun. I got a Model:Samples almost for laughs, and I found myself hooked. Digitone is an FM monster though, and I kind of miss that, but not so much at the expense of that MIDI sequencing paradigm.

I gave a Digitakt/Digitone/Heat trio a shot, and I liked it better than the MD, but the sequencing for MIDI wasn't sitting right with me, and I didn't like the way Digitakt handles samples. I wasn't a fan of the sequencer, the drums all sounded kinda plunky, the MIDI irritated me, and I was already having issues with the encoders not long after arrival. I had a MachineDrum mkI back in the day, and I just couldn't get into it. May be wishful thinking by me, but I feel like this would be a gamchanger, especially if they added some new stuff like CV so you can sync, control and and sample your modular in.oh man.sign me up! I really believe this could be the king of standalones if they did something like this. They could combine that with the RYTM and Digitone engine to make an amazing standalone groovebox that you could then use Overbridge to record with. I suspect Elektron has something in the works with the Octatrack engine. The OT is not an intuitive machine at all, but some people may dig that. One reason is I simply can't remember all the shortcuts so I always have to look up things, which slows me down. Still managed to get it on some releases, but it's still the one piece of gear I can't seem to get my head around. Octatrack mk1 - the most complex piece of gear I have owned. Negatives - limited sample pool per project, only really 8 outs due to choke groups and mono sampling only. My favorite standalone drum machine I have ever owned.

RYTM - the modern version of a classic MPC.

Also, super easy to modulate and tweak FM sounds is very welcome - I quite enjoy combining analogue sounds with digital FM so this is a perfect fit I love the Elektron sequencer and workflow.ĭigitone - what I love the most is it can generate a lot of sounds if you have the polyphony free- 4 internal sounds plus I like to sequence my modular on it and run the outs through the digitone inputs.
